National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)

In order to preserve and protect our waterways from the rising pollution problem, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found it necessary to establish a way to protect our water quality.

The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) is the resulting water permitting program for municipalities and construction sites that address such areas as stormwater, domestic wastewater, and industrial wastewater discharges.

NPDES regulates stormwater runoff that is discharged from construction sites and other construction activities that disturb the environment.
