Canal Maintenance

In order to preserve, protect and maintain our waterways, Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District (LA MSID) must dredge its 311-miles of canals.

During this process, LA MSID staff works with  large machines to remove silt from the canal beds in order to restore the organic balance of each canal. The debris is placed in the District’s right-of-ways to dry out—a process which can take up to a month to complete.

Once the silt has dried out, LA MSID flattens the silt on the right-of-ways to help generate the growth of grass.
